Children's Space

Our Children's Room is designed to support the development of the 5 early literacy or pre-reading skills: talk, sing, read, write, and play! It contains two special play spaces: the FFL Family Room, and the Little Makers area.

FFL Family Room

FFL Family Room

The Family Room is designed primarily for babies through kindergartners and contains:

  • A white board wall that supports scribbling, drawing and writing
  • A train table for pretend playing and the development of social and emotional skills like taking turns and sharing 
  • Duplo blocks for building, to support play and math skills
  • Puzzles, for play and building mathematical skills like spatial awareness 
  • Comfy chairs for shared reading 
  • A television and music CDs for singing
  • A chalkboard easel for drawing and writing
  • Large cardboard blocks for building/playing
  • "Animal Hospital" stand for pretend play and talking 
  • Wii Gaming Stations to encourage play and the development of social and emotional skills like taking turns and sharing
  • AWE computers loaded with educational games

Little Makers Area

Little Makers Room

The Little Maker's area, located in the back corner of the Children's Room, is a free play space designed to encourage imagination, building, and creation. It is designed primarily for first graders and up. It contains:

  • Legos 
  • Magformers
  • Goobi Magnetic Construction kit
  • kaleidogears
  • iPad
  • Dash Robot
  • Displays of children's artwork and creations

Are you creative? Do you like Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math? Creation Club Jr. meets every other week to learn new skills and use the various technology at the FFL. Meet kids from around the area and learn everything from 3D printing to game design! For grades 3-5. Registration required.

Sign up to attend a one-on-one lesson on Solidworks 3D modeling software with our volunteer, Joe. Joe can help you get started with 3D modeling and/or offer assistance with a specific project. Appropriate for adults or students grades 3+.

Signing Storytime

Description

Join us for Signing Storytime, a program offered twice a month to introduce young children to signing vocabulary through sharing stories! Each month we will learn 6-7 signs that correspond to a book. Signs and stories will be repeated in the same month, but families are encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible. 

For ages 3-6.

This program is offered through a partnership between the FFL and Crouse Hospital and is certified by Baby Signing Time.
