The Palace Poetry Group is an open group whose mission is to help poets find their poetic voices and in so doing encourage each other. Poets and all who appreciate poetry are welcome to attend.
Join the Palace Poetry Group for a poetry reading by a featured speaker every month followed by an open mic.
Featured reader is Richard Levine.
A retired New York State teacher, an activist, and poet, Richard's love for poetry was first inspired by poetry in music: Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Doc Pomus, Smokey Robinson, Bob Dylan and the Beatles. Song lyrics lured him into the order and musicality of words and how they might be used to communicate ideas and emotions and help us understand our lives. The poets that first helped him discover the fierce beauty and force of words alone include Shakespeare, Whitman Frost, Roethke, Kunitz, Heaney and Kavanagh, and William Stafford.
Writing about having served in a war taught him how a poem could convey even unspeakable experience and how thinking through the senses sometimes reveals what intellect alone cannot.
